afterwords:::17:::repeats

**Never Repeat Again

Each of our assumptions can turn into an activity that explores the realm of play. Each elaboration can explore an interest we hold. Each time we repeat the process we can either, enjoy the activity as we play it again; or we can examine gently if we experience it the same. Sometimes we choose to develop it further to include something new. Perhaps it happens in this very elaboration on playfulness. In telling this story I elaborate further and further with new details and spontaneous digressions. Like in the story One Thousand and One, um, well, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, each hat becomes more elaborate than the previous one; until finally the hats overwhelm our sensibility.

If we take a story that we like to tell and let it tell itself, ideas will pop up that will elaborate the tale. Follow those and include them in the story. Some will become wonderful additions to the narrative; others will lead to yet new tales that pull memories into the retelling. Some threads will be sloughed off. Again the ninth assumption of not repeating in play serves no purpose.
